Broad Regional Networking Cluster IT Mitteldeutschland e. Since then, the InfAI has developed into one of the University's largest and best-funded research and transfer institutes. Printing and Publishing 12 13 PLAYERS SPECTOR BOOKS Where Books Take the Stage Spector Books publishes books that intersect aesthetics, theory and design. With around 50 titles a year, the Leipzig publishing house aims to create books through a collective process that links content and form. In doing so, they explore the potential of vibrant exchange between all parties involved in the production of a book: artists, writers, bookmakers, lithographers, printers and bookbinders. In this way books take centre stage with Spector Books. Many of the designers working with Spector Books studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. The publishing house also engages international designers for individual projects and considers itself an interface between the local and European book design scene. RADIO AND FILM Passion for Film and Conscientious Broadcasting Broadcasting studios, young journalists, film en- thusiasts - there is plenty in Central Germany's largest media production centre to make hearts beat faster in film, television and radio professionals' chests. Leipzig is home to major radio and television stations such as Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) and the radio stations PSR and R.SA, which can be picked up throughout Germany. The Uni-Radio Mephisto 97.6 and the Webradio detektor.fm complement the superb broadcasting scene with innovative radio formats. Radio and Film 16 17 PLAYERS MITTELDEUTSCHER RUNDFUNK - MDR (CENTRAL GERMAN BROADCASTING) Quality brands with charisma With television channels, ten radio stations, a symphony orchestra, radio choir and children's choir, MDR is the most successful media company in Central Germany. Seven million people, 95 per cent of all people aged 14 and over living in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, regularly use an MDR service on TV, radio or the inter- net. Between channels such as MDR AKTUELL, MDR KULTUR, MDR SACHSEN, MDR SACHSEN-ANHALT, MDR THÜRINGEN or MDR KLASSIK, the modern multimedia production house provides information and serves the users across all of its formats. The independent production company has made a name for itself in the industry, since its founding in Leipzig in 2010, with various award-winning art house films - for example, the drama "Herbert", which received the German Film Award "Die silberne Lola" (the silver Lola) The film, that focuses on an ex-boxer with ALS, was developed by DEPARTURES Film with the director Thomas Stuber and was shot almost entirely in Leipzig. "Our philosophy is that we can only exist along- side and not against one another," says General Manager, Paulina Klebanova. REGIOCAST, RADIOZENTRUM LEIPZIG Nine million daily listeners REGIOCAST GmbH & Co. KG is a nationwide radio broad- caster with offices in Leipzig, Kiel and Berlin. SpinLab Startup Coach SpinLab - The HHL Accelerator helps innovative start-ups to build and expand their businesses, with the explicit aim of finding the best start-ups in the world and bringing them to Leipzig. Selected startups will participate in a 6-month, top-class mentoring programme, with free and unlimited access to all offers: in addition to intensive coaching, the start-up teams benefit from contact with an extensive network of investors, established compa- nies and other business founders. They have access to a modern co-working space in Leipzig's creative hub, the Spinnerei (former cotton mill). They can also use different technologies provided by partners, and receive assistance after the programme ends, for example, in recruiting staff. They can plan their further expansion by means of an international exchange Since its foundation in 2000, the company has been continuously expanding and is now active in 14 Euro- pean countries. In addition to its original headquarters in Munich, Mercateo has been present in Köthen (Saxony- Anhalt) since 2004 and in Leipzig since 2011. UNIKATUM usually acts as an artistic planner, with the company either overseeing the implementation or taking care of the complete production of the project. The guiding principle for the firm's 5 employees is to create "walk-in pictures" that uniquely present their subject, making it "tangible" and accessible.
