Exciting new companies and above-average growth, both in terms of employee num- bers and sales figures, make the IT industry the cluster's No. 1 growth area. There are over 1,000 IT companies operational in Leipzig, many of them leaders in their field.  SCADS.AI Data Science Centre in Saxony Big data, knowledge management and artificial intelli- gence (AI) have all become indispensable to business. Each of these technologies alone already offers compa- nies enormous potential. The combination of all three increases potential for growth exponentially. The Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial In- telligence - ScaDS.AI for short - aims to bridge the gaps between these different domains. ScaDS.AI is a center for scalable data alanytics and artifical intelligence with sites in Leipzig and Dresden. The data science centre is conducting research into new methods of machine learning and how they can be explained, methods of AI-supported presentation of knowledge, and techniques for safeguarding privacy in the use of machine learning methods, among other things. The most cutting-edge methods in AI and data science can increasingly be applied in practice through coopera- tion projects with companies, often in collaboration with the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI). This boosts participating companies' innovative strength as well as their competitiveness. The Transfer and Service Centre also provides scientific advice and training in the fields of AI, Big Data and High Performance Computing, as well as facilitating the use of AI and HPC resources for partners. 
